Mock Trial reflection
I really enjoyed this years mock trial. This years trial was extremely different form last year we had so much more freedom which meant greater responsibility for instants last year we had a script and you followed that. All you had to do was write your closing argument, but this year you had to write all of it. So if you didn’t do your work you had nothing when it came to your trial. Last year we complained about not having as much freedom like to write our own questions or opening or closing arguments . Doing this made the stress level go up for me. Meaning you basically think ,breath and sleep mock trial for a week, but it was so much more exiting because you really got in to the case and got exited.
This year we split up in to two groups the defense and the prosecution. I was in the prosecution this time and we meet with John. I really think splitting into two groups really helped because you could just focus and learn you side. So you had know idea really what the other side was going to say. Also you could compare with your group and discuss the trial .
I really think that working on monday and Wednesday helped, but I think it would be better if we had days or time devoted to one thing like one sort class for closing or opening direct examinations or cross examinations or even one for witnesses so they would know what to say. that way we don’t just have a lot of information thrown at us all at once we would have time to think about one thing at a time. I think maybe if we could just have more time that would be good, but I know we were busy. On the day of the trial I felt really prepared, but nervous. I had been up since teen thirty working on the trial. I was working with john and I think he did a pretty good job. I know I am a little hard to work with because I admit I am a bit of a control freak . Anyway on the day of the trial I was ageist anthony and charmaine and I think it went really well my closing argument went really well I had worked probably the hardest on that. I was really nervous when I got to school, but after seeing the first trial because I was the second round of trials Take place I was ready. I think that once you get up there you stopped being nervous and you just do it. The one thing I would have like to change was that we had the same jury member from the trial before so they had already sat through one trial, but it was okay.
I would definitely want to do this again maybe with a different kind of law, but criminal would be find to do again. The problem is we are going to have to do this with the now sixth graders and they don’t have as much experience I don’t think we can make it any more difficult then it is know but I think we could maybe make the case more complex. over all i really enjoyed mock trial.
