Acid and base testing with pH probes

In Science we where learning about acids and bases. A couple of weeks before we had been for testing acid and bases in every day house hold items. We used an indicator  to determined wether or not it was an acid or base. If hot pink then it was an acid if dark green a base. For this experiment we used vernier lab quest unit pH probes . What we did was test the same every day household substances that we had tested prier to compare with the pH scale .  One was a strong acid, neutral was a seven and fourteen was a strong base.  We trying to understand that maybe when we tested before with the indicator it might not have been accurate.  That what we had thought was a strong acid just because of its color it might not have been.  Like vinegar was a strong acid when I tested it the first time, but when I tested it with the pH probe it was just 2.49, which seems like a lot, but to say it was bright bright pink the first time I tested it surprising . Some other results where ammonia was 10.27, Hydrochloric acid was .5, apple juice was 3.55. We tested the indictor from the first experiment which was supposed to be neutral, but when we tested we found that it was 5.8 which is a weak acid.  I really enjoyed using the pH probes and looking an acids and bases.
