Indus valley reflection
This year in humanities we have been learning about ancient civilizations. to kick off the year year we decided to learn about the sumerians of Mesopotamia. We each worked individually on different topics about the sumerians. I learned about diet and agriculture. When we were done with research we got together and shared. After doing that project we were unsure were to go next, so we settled on learning about the indus valley and ancient china. One group worked on ancient china and the other on the indus valley. I worked on the indus valley with maxx and bri. The idea was that we would learn all the information we could then share it with the other group and vice-verse. Charmaine , Andrew, Taelon and sherif worked on accent china. They split up and each worked on a specific topic in ancient china. My group decided that we were going to write a song about life in the indus valley.
Our first step was to gather information. At the beginning of the project we took a trip to the la jolla public library to research. Thats were we found some foundational facts about the indus valley people. We did not find as much information about the indus valley as maybe we wanted to, but there really is not that much about them. the majority of information out there is just about the housing and some every day life. We can not read the writing and we don’t know really about how they we governed them selfs. This made or research really difficult, because you had to make some of the connections for you self about the way they lived. We used many different websites and book to accumulate the information. The problem was most of our resources said different things.
Then after researching we had to write the lyrics for the song. Bri and I worked together on some parts and maxx worked on some parts. The first thing we did was go to Lauren. she told us that we should write the song like one big poem, then find music that would match. We had to come up with a song chorus. We each came up with our own then shared in the end we used the on i came up with, which was” down in the indus valley in 1500 BC(bc) the harappa and mohenjo-daro lived in perfect harmony”It was amazing if i do say so my self, just kidding, anyway after we figured out what the chorus was like then we spilt up to work on the rest of the song. Bri and I worked on the rest of the verses and maxx worked on a rap we wanted to add. Then after we finished working on the lyrics we had to record our selfs in garage band. this was quit hard, because we had to record over and over again till are got it to sound just how we wanted it to.
On the day of our presentation, we got together to talk about how our presentation was going to go. my idea was to give each person their own lyrics then we would let them pick what parts they wanted to learn about. So we did to that, but Bri and I also Took all my notes and combined them on two piece or paper. first in our presentation we played then song, then rob asked us if we would do it live, so we did. Then we Let them ask questions. I think that we answered the questions pretty well. The problem is that there is so little information on the indus valley that it was hard to answer some of the harder questions. The presentation could have been better, but I don’t think that it was just us going of topic it was everyone.
I think that over all we did a pretty good job. I mean its hard working with any group, because you all work very differently. Bri and I have worked on many projects together in the past and that goes for maxx and me as well. The problem is when you put us all together we don’t work all that well, but we definitely made it work. Over all i really enjoyed working on this project and I definitely learned a tone and used my four weeks wisely.
