Humanities Reflection

In humanities it took us quit awhile to come up with what to start our learning about. First we had to figure out what topic to start with ad this was hard because lots of us had lots of us had different ideas. Someone brought up the question what is a civilization?, and what was the first civilization. We had some heated debates about those to questions. We had lots of different ideas, we talked about whether or not one person could be there own civilizations?, if cave men and women were a civilizations?, and really what the true definition of a civilizations was. I think rob was the one who looked it up and told us that a civilizations according to the dictionary is a group of people who come together and domesticate their land, instead of being hunters and gatherers. They farmed and really used their land. Some we really talked and had some great conversations about all those topics. After all that we thought about doing some projects, but we did not know were to start. We thought maybe we could start with our civilizations and culture, but that when we started thinking about ideas we really did not know what to do, and that was because we had know foundations or knowing about civilizations. We thought that maybe we should start with the first civilizations and work our way up, this way we would have some understanding already.

So with started researching, and found that the first know civilizations was the sumerians of Mesopotamia. After that we broke up in to some groups and each picked a different topic about the sumerians. Some people chose art, architecture, religion and  i chose agriculture. So first when we were picking topics I thought that trade would be interesting to learn about, but when i started learning about it i found there really was not that much information on trade, but when I was researching I found quit a lot of things on agriculture, and that  sounded interesting so i thought i would give that a try and see what else I could find.

So for my project on agriculture I researched a lot I tried to find recipes and dishes, but that was more difficult, because the items they ate were limited. I ended up learning a lot about tools and tricks for farming, irrigation and some foods. I researched a ton and found some really fascinating things. It was a completely different way of life, but at the same time it was very much like ours. After researching I decided to make a dish using the ingredients that they had. It was extremely difficult, because that had really no mineral wealth. So i could not use any salt. In the end I made a pretty good barley, lentil, date, chickpea and onion dish.

I really enjoyed doing a project like this. I enjoyed working with myself, because you really have to push your self and get stuff done. I liked that everyone picked a different topic and shared. thins way you get to learn about everything without studying it. I think  our class has to work on is time management and using time wisely, but other then that I really enjoyed this  project.
