Ruby slippers

Venus In science this year our topic is earth science so to get better under standing about earth we decided to learn about what else is out there. So to start, we each picked a planet in our solar system. I chose Venus. In third grade we had to to a variation of the same project, pick a planet,make a model, then share.  Only this time we learned about everything in greater depth. I picked venus because you never really hear anything about venus it’s the planet everyone seems to forget. We had about a week and a half to find information about your planet and make a small scale model of you planet. The scale we used was 10,000 km=1cm an example Venus has a diameter of 12,103.6km so I made my planet 1.21036 cm, but it was not exactly perfect.  The First thing we did was go on the internet to find information about our planets, then on thursday we went to the ucsd library were we found lots of books that had facts and information about the planets.I Found two books that I read parts of and took notes. Here are just some of the facts I found about venus facts. 1.Venus has a very thick atmosphere which is almost the complete opposite to our atmosphere it is almost all carbon dioxide and only a little percent nigerton.  2. it is the brightest planet because it reflects 76% of all the suns rays and this is because of its strong atmosphere it acts like a mirror all the suns ray just reflect.  3. It takes venus 243 earth days to rotate on its axis, but it only takes 225 earth days to orbit the sun, so venues day is longer then its year. 4.In venus the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.  5.If you weighed 100 pounds on earth you would only weigh 90 on Venus.  I learned a whole lot more, but those are some facts. I really enjoyed doing a project like this, where everyone picked something different Then we came all together and decided what you found and learned. This way you don’t have to research a really broad topic you can pick something more specific and learn more. over all i learned a lot about all the planets and I would like to do this type of project with sharing again.
