The Wednesday Wars

The wednesday wars by Gary D. schimdt was set in long island New York. It is about a boy named Holling Hoodhood who starts the year thinking his seventh grade teacher Mrs. Baker hates his guts. Holling is dreading wednesday when he has to spend the whole afternoon with Mrs. Baker.  His classmates go to temple and church on a Wednesday afternoon. So it is just him and Mrs. Baker, His afternoon classes get even worse when his is made to read Shakespeare. Also at the same time he begins to run for his schools cross country team and finds something very interesting about Mrs. Baker.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was a very interesting the way Gary D.  Schimdt was able to mix  running with Shakespeare, two things you don’t usually see in a book. I think it was a good light summer read and easy to understand. At some parts when holling was quoting Shakespeare I found it a little hard to understand what he was talking about , but if you were familiar with Shakespeare it would not be that hard at all , but the shakespeare parts were the only time I had trouble understanding. I think some times it went for one part to another part to quickly, but that did not really bother me.

I enjoyed the plot and thought it was interesting how the story was from the holling hoodhood’s eyes, but he was telling you the stories as if he were talking to you in a room.

I really enjoyed this book.
