Bluu Maji

Bluu Maji

Bluu maji(Island projects)

Just before we went on break we wrapped up our latest project witch was make our own self-sustainable island. I worked with andrew on this project,  the name of our island was bluu maji witch is blue water in swahili.I really enjoyed working on this project. For me this project was really beneficial, because it  really showed us  the ins and outs of how our civilization works and finding out that everything is inter connected. That if you take out one thing it affects everything else. Its hard to pinpoint exactly what our first steps were, because it took us a long to to really jump into this project and I think thats because theres not really a starting point as were learned. I think Andrew and I started by coming up with government and how this island was going to be governed, then peoples beliefs and values. As the project went on I think I really gained more of an understanding about how everything works.Below is some of what andrew and I put together.:

Name- fiji 2/bluu maji

Size- kaua’i -888.87149 miles

Climate- cool season(72 F),rains year round, tropical storms, summer 90 F

families- Each family has there own life stoke of pigs, chickens, cows(for milk). each family is only aloud as many live stoke as needed. Families are on there own to harvest there own food for there families.each family is required to keep back up seeds in case of a disaster.each family has there own horses to use for transpiration/ wooded bicycles.

families shelters- each family makes there own house out of wood. In case or fire  each family has there own boat we they can vacate the island in case of emergencies. In each boat families are required to leave one days worth or water on the boat.

government- theres a  town hall where the people of the island come together to   discuss new laws that are purposed by the people. there is a head figure who’s job is to help the town come together on  dissections. This head figure is elected by the people every four years. when that person has finished his or her’s four years the people come together to discuss whether or not he or she should be reelected. this person can be reelected no more the four times. If some one unable to finish there term, the people of the island come to an emergency meeting the find a new leader. The people of the island come together for meetings every three weeks. each house hold elects one person to go to these

meeting.

values- they believe that everyone has the right to speak their mind, that everyone is treated fairly and equally, that people have the right to make there own dissections with in the boundaries or the community.

if male cows die, we are prepared because we took samples from the cows and we keep the seaman in a container, but this is just in case.

in case of disease groups of families join together and keep there cows in different places so disease does not spread.

chickens- ever couple mouths the roaster come to visited …….they live on the other side of the island.

punishment- if you steel, if you murder, if abuse then you are sent to a place were you have to wait out the dissections of the counsel. the most likely punishment for stilling is you are told to give the persons possession back and then are told to, give back to the community by doing a number of community service hours assigned to you by the counsel. If you murder then you are sent out to sea were you have to live on your own for

schooling- Super progressive……………….you are brought up learning simples thing for survival, you family teaches you things like how to read and write or math. Then at the age of 14 you leave to work as someone apprentice for the job your most fascinated by and would like to partake in. Then at the age of sixteen you are released on your own find to find a job in that field. If you are unhappy with the job of your choose or in injured or in know longer able to partake in the job, then assigned something that is more suitable.

waste- A lot of pipe lines are under ground taking the waste under ground and it goes into a sewer type tunnel that goes underground for a miles.pipelines are made of

transportation - boats(wood)bikes(wood)- If there was an important reason to leave the island for a bit the island have boats for evacuation, each boat has a days worth food and water in it for each person, there is only a days because they do not expect to be gone that long. The boats are made from wood from the trees. For island transportation they use bikes with wooden frames also from the trees. People can also get or make their own boats for fishing.

trade-  They don’t really have a currency, but they do trade. For example if they want a pig from someone else the other person could say “give me two of your chickens, then you can have one of my pigs”. The trade is not going be the same for every person, because the trade is based on what each person wants.

if some dies- if someone dies the community comes together for a celebration of life not a funeral. Then each year they make a boat in witch they send the died out to sea. to them this symbolizes  leaving a old life and on to a new.

Birth- most people on the island a have naturel birth, because the island does not have a big hospital, but it does have doctors. So when ever some is going to have a baby they have a doctor that helps them throughout the way, the doctor caw also give them some kind of pain meds to help the pain the women are going through.

Two men sit in Miss Acutson’s office. She sits behind her desk.

MISS ACUTSON:

Well boys, I’ll see you next week.

The two men leave, closing the door to her office behind them. There are two small pictures on her desk, each of a different man, both different than the two sitting with her. She picks them up and fingers them.

A knock is heard on Miss Acutson’s door. As if startled, she quickly drops the pictures into a small desk drawer and slams it shut.

MISS ACUTSON:

Come in.

A man steps in the door. He is one of the men in Miss Acutson’s photographs. He wears a tweed suit and a black hat.

MISS ACUTSON:

Hello, Mr. Johnson.

MR. JOHNSON:

Hello, miss.

Miss Acutson :

My dear, how have you been doing?

Mr. Johnson (crisply):

Fine, you?

Miss Acutson (smoothly):

Well, I’ve never been better.

Miss Acutson:

I  have something you can do for me

Mr. Johnson (inquisitively, yet still coolly):

And what might that be?

Miss Acutson:

I need you to dispose of someone.

Mr. Johnson (taken aback):

What?!

We are in Miss Acutson’s office again. The scene is exactly the same, save for the fact that Mr. Jackson is sitting in the chair that Mr. Johnson was in. Mr. Jackson looks similar to Mr. Johnson, except he is noticeably shorter.

Mr. Jackson:

What?!

Miss Acutson:

Well, it is for your protection, you know that that’s what I care about.

She slowly slides open her small desk drawer and fingers the two pictures.

Mr. Jackson :

But…but…?

Miss Acutson

All I know is that he’s watching you, so watch out.

Miss Acutson:

Just take the picture.

Mr. Johnson slowly pulls the picture across the table. He slides it off the end and stares at it for a moment before placing it in the inner pocket of his tweed jacket. Miss Acutson slowly smiles, in a sinister fashion.

Mr. Jackson and Barbara walk down the hall a little.

Mr. Jackson:

As crazy as this sounds I think that man is trying to kill me.

Barbara:

Yeah, Mr. Jackson, that does sound crazy. I would keep that to myself if I were you. So you’re not going to hire him?

Mr. Jackson exits the office building seeing Mr. Johnson’s face in shadow and jumps.

Mr. Johnson:

Hello, sir.

Great Artist

For this years Great Artist our class chose to do something a little different, we had the idea of doing Alfred Hitchcock the famous director, who directed many classics like The Birds and Pyscho. After choosing Alfred Hitchcock we brain stormed what we wanted to learn and what we wanted to accomplish. First we all decided we definitely wanted to make our own movie, but how were we going to manage that? So we decided to each write a script and storyboard. I wrote a script called she’s watching you. Then after finishing that we thought we should pick one of the scripts to make into our movie. We settled on making Andrews movie Lady Troubles ,witch we later changed to A Clever Hand. Our next project was the actual making of the movie, which turned out to be quit a challenge in its self, but the end result was amazing. At the same time as all this was going on we were also working on our movie posters. We decided on making two movie posters. We all made one movie poster for Rear Window, and another one for the Alfred Hitchcock movie of our choose. We each learned about one of Alfred Hitchcock’s signature techniques like blondes, or eyes and each made our own little project to show our learning. Finally the last thing was we each made our own silhouettes. This years Great Artist for me turned out to be one of the very best.

water and food coloring

For the last couple of weeks in science we have been learning about the water cycle. After we finished up our last project in witch we had to make the water cycle in a bottle. We thought to do some experimenting with food coloring and hot and cold water. So first I got three cups. Then I took hot water in one cup and cold water in one cup and added food coloring to each one. Then I watched what happened. It was very interesting to see the differences. The idea is we would see how that relates to the air. I really enjoyed experimenting and would like to continue looking at air a little more.

Ancient Greece

This is not a refection either it a documentation of what we have been doing in humanities. Same as the science we had just wrapped up another humanities project were we studied the indus valley. So last week we brought up the idea of doing ancient greece, because it is some thing that everyone seemed to be interested in, so we thought we would do another share quit like the science one. Where everyone picks something different  about the ancient greeks. So I chose daily life, for daily life since we did not have that much time for this share, i just talked. I think went pretty well to.

Volcanoes

This is not a reflection it is more a documentation of what I have been doing in science. Well after we finished up our last projects on the geological time period in the earths history. We thought we would cram one more thing in to the crazy week before break . So we decided on natural disasters, I chose volcanoes, for my share i made a slide show which i will hopefully post sone, and lava cake hahaha.I really did learn a lot about volcanoes unfortunately all my notes are in my note book, but when I post the keynote I will write some facts too.

Tamales refection

Indus valley reflection

This year in humanities we have been learning about ancient civilizations. to kick off the year year we decided to learn about the sumerians of Mesopotamia. We each worked individually on different topics about the sumerians. I learned about diet and agriculture.  When we were done with research we got  together and shared.  After doing that project we were unsure were to go next, so we settled on learning about the indus valley and ancient china. One group worked on ancient china and the other on the indus valley. I worked on the indus valley with maxx and bri. The idea was that we would learn all the information we could then share it with the other group and vice-verse.  Charmaine , Andrew, Taelon  and sherif worked on accent china. They split up and each worked on a specific topic in ancient china. My group decided that we were going to write a song about life in the indus valley.

Our first step was to gather information. At the beginning of the project we took a trip to the la jolla public library  to research.  Thats were we found some foundational facts about the indus valley people. We did not find as much information about the indus valley as maybe we wanted to, but there really is not that much about them. the majority of information out there is just about the housing and some every day life. We can not read the writing and we don’t know really about how they we governed them selfs. This made or research really difficult, because you had to make some of the connections for you self about the way they lived. We used many different websites and book to accumulate the information. The problem was most of our resources said different things.

Then after researching we had to write the lyrics for the song. Bri and I worked together on some parts and maxx worked on some parts. The first thing we did was go to Lauren. she told us that we should write the song like one big poem, then find music that would match. We had to come up with a song chorus. We each came up with our own then shared in the end we used the on i came up with, which was” down in the indus valley in 1500 BC(bc) the harappa and mohenjo-daro lived in perfect harmony”It was amazing if i do say so my self, just kidding, anyway after we figured out what the chorus was like then we spilt up to work on the rest of the song. Bri and I worked on the rest of the verses and maxx worked on a rap we wanted to add. Then after we finished working on the lyrics we had to record our selfs in garage band. this was quit hard, because we had to record over and over again till are got it to sound just how we wanted it to.

On the day of our presentation, we got together to talk about how our presentation was going to go. my idea was to give each person their own lyrics then we would let them pick what parts they wanted to learn about. So we did to that, but Bri and I also Took all my notes and combined them on two piece or paper. first in our presentation we played then song, then rob asked us if we would do it live, so we did. Then we Let them ask questions. I think that we answered the questions pretty well. The problem is that there is so little information on the indus valley that it was hard to answer some of the harder questions. The presentation could have been better, but I don’t think that it was just us going of topic it was everyone.

I think that over all we did a pretty good job. I mean its hard working with any group, because you all work very differently. Bri and I have worked on many projects together in the past and that goes for maxx and me as well. The problem is when you put us all together we don’t work all that well, but we definitely made it work. Over all i really enjoyed working on this project and I definitely learned a tone and used my four weeks wisely.

Tamales

cretaceous Reflection

The last project we completed in science was on space and planets. We each chose a planet, then researched it. The idea was that in the end we would come together and each person would share about their planet. This way everyone would know about all the planets. Well after we finished that project we thought maybe we should direct  our learning to our earth. someone had the idea that we should each pick a period of the earths history. I chose the cretaceous period maxx was also interested in the same period. So we set guide lines for what we should learn and accomplish and then the idea was we would do something we had done for our planet project. We would all come together and share, but there was a little bit more for this project we were to present a real presentation.

Our first step was to research. Maxx and i decided to work as a group and what he really wanted to do was diorama. Anyway so we started to research, and as we were researching we found that there is a tone of information out there. we used many websites and books. There was this great book that carwai had. That had lots of the dinosaurs that were in our period. With lots of information about them. As part  of our guide lines we had to learn about climate, plants and what ever else made your period special. One thing that i have been doing more and more is taking notes. when i found anything interesting about our period i would take notes.

Then we started working on our diorama. first maxx took a box he cut out the top then added a another piece of cardboard.  After we collected dirt from out side. Then we split up, i made the land animals and planets. maxx made the sea animals . I took many tries before i managed to make them look like actual dinosaurs. I made a triceratops a t-rex and a kromsaurs  which is a water dinosaur.

The presentation  part did not go as well as we had planed. well on the Thursday before the our presentation maxx and i got together and talked about what we where going to say and how we were going to percent , but come the day of the presentation it did not really go to plan. Maxx and I  each wanted  say something, but they overlapped a little, so I think our presentation did not go all that smoothly. In my parent teacher conference rob and carwai had mentioned that i should work on my presentations, because i tend to not really stay on the same topic and that goes for every day talking too . so for the presentation i really wanted it to be the best it could be. I had notes, i knew what i wanted to say i just think that i was hard because maxx and did not seem to be on the same page. I don’t mean that as an excuse, but it did make things a little harder with two people.

I thought that maxx and I did an over all pretty good job. We did have some room for improvement . One thing that could have made our presentation better  is just the basic being more prepared. we new all the facts, but just being on the same page and going over the presentation before.  I definitely learned that presenting with people is hard . All we needed to do was not share so many small facts and really just focus on the more important facts. I am  definitely proud of the diorama.

listening to all the presentations was great. this was the part of the project i was really looking forward to. Each presentation was different in its own way. Carwai did a sort of prezi which is like a power point and a drawing . Charmaine made several drawing of dinosaurs. Andrew had a keynote and so did Rob. Sherif made dinosaurs on a game named mincraft. Brianna made a very cool memory game. I really enjoyed listening and watching each presentation. It was fascinating to learn about each period, because then I started to make connection about all the periods. How the triassic period went in to the jurassic  and how the dinosaurs ,plants and weather evolved in to my period the cretaceous. How the dinosaurs died,  and in briannas period the paleogene they had mammals . Andrew talked about what it going to happen in the future and rob about what we have caused our earth. Carwai talked about the high carbon level in the carboniferous period and many more facts about all of the periods. I really think that if someone asked me about any of the periods i could answers most of the questions.

today we got feedback from everyone in our class. I agreed with every thing they said. We needed to work on our presentation, but we had lots of information. Over all I loved the project and think we did a great job.

Humanities Reflection

In humanities it took us quit awhile to come up with what to start our learning about. First we had to figure out what topic to start with ad this was hard because lots of us had lots of us had different ideas. Someone brought up the question what is a civilization?, and what was the first civilization. We had some heated debates about those to questions. We had lots of different ideas, we talked about whether or not one person could be there own civilizations?, if cave men and women were a civilizations?, and really what the true definition of a civilizations was. I think rob was the one who looked it up and told us that a civilizations according to the dictionary is a group of people who come together and domesticate their land, instead of being hunters and gatherers. They farmed and really used their land. Some we really talked and had some great conversations about all those topics. After all that we thought about doing some projects, but we did not know were to start. We thought maybe we could start with our civilizations and culture, but that when we started thinking about ideas we really did not know what to do, and that was because we had know foundations or knowing about civilizations. We thought that maybe we should start with the first civilizations and work our way up, this way we would have some understanding already.

So with started researching, and found that the first know civilizations was the sumerians of Mesopotamia. After that we broke up in to some groups and each picked a different topic about the sumerians. Some people chose art, architecture, religion and  i chose agriculture. So first when we were picking topics I thought that trade would be interesting to learn about, but when i started learning about it i found there really was not that much information on trade, but when I was researching I found quit a lot of things on agriculture, and that  sounded interesting so i thought i would give that a try and see what else I could find.

So for my project on agriculture I researched a lot I tried to find recipes and dishes, but that was more difficult, because the items they ate were limited. I ended up learning a lot about tools and tricks for farming, irrigation and some foods. I researched a ton and found some really fascinating things. It was a completely different way of life, but at the same time it was very much like ours. After researching I decided to make a dish using the ingredients that they had. It was extremely difficult, because that had really no mineral wealth. So i could not use any salt. In the end I made a pretty good barley, lentil, date, chickpea and onion dish.

I really enjoyed doing a project like this. I enjoyed working with myself, because you really have to push your self and get stuff done. I liked that everyone picked a different topic and shared. thins way you get to learn about everything without studying it. I think  our class has to work on is time management and using time wisely, but other then that I really enjoyed this  project.
